What Flooring Is Suitable For Office Spaces?

Posted by Caitlin Davis on 27th Mar 2024

Offices can be quite complex environments, so a number of different flooring options should be considered for different areas. High up on the list of priorities for anybody searching for office flooring is form & function. Be aware, that several different flooring choices may be required because what flooring works in an open-plan office won’t work in your office kitchen and what will work in your office kitchen won't work in your reception space. On this page, you can view our most popular office flooring products.

What flooring is best for lobby & reception areas?

The lobby and reception is the first area your customers and stakeholders will visit. It’s important to ensure that this area meets high standards and constantly looks presentable. Due to this being a high footfall area, we recommend carpet tiles or luxury vinyl tiles. These floor coverings are incredibly resilient and if they become damaged or stained, it's only necessary to replace the damaged tiles and not the entire floor covering. Ensuring reception area flooring is water and slip resistant is very important as it’s likely rain water will be walked into the building, which is why we recommend entrance matting where doors are positioned.

What flooring is suitable for office spaces?

In office spaces, carpet tiles work really well as they can absorb background noise, add an element of comfort and are tough enough to handle high-traffic areas, which could be subject to spillages and other accidental damage. Specific areas such as under desks can quickly become worn out by people’s shoes causing friction. The concept of carpet tiles means that you can simply replace any damaged tiles without needing to replace the entire floor. If you want to reduce the noise throughout your office space, an acoustic underlay will work well.

What flooring is best suited to conference rooms?

Conference rooms and board rooms are the most important rooms in most office environments. They are the spaces where important meetings occur, internally with staff and stakeholders and externally with customers and suppliers. It’s important to ensure these spaces are well presented with the right floor covering for the space. We would recommend LVT in smaller conference rooms to lessen echoing rather than in a large meeting room with lots of attendees. For medium to large conference rooms carpet tiles work well as it soaks up any noise pollution.

What flooring is best for office kitchen spaces?

Luxury vinyl tiles and vinyl flooring work well in office kitchen spaces as they are easy to clean if any spillages occur and when regular maintenance takes place. Some vinyl floor coverings have anti-slip properties for increased health & safety compliance. Kitchen spaces should be kept sanitary at all times and floor coverings such as carpet tiles and polished ceramic tiles are not suitable. This is because they are difficult to keep clean and pose the possible threat of slip hazards.
