How to Install Polyflor Fusionline LVT: A Step-by-Step Guide

Polyflor Fusionline PUR is a glue-down Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) available in plank, parquet and tile formats. Unlike click flooring, Fusionline is adhered directly to a correctly prepared subfloor, making preparation, conditioning and setting out important parts of the installation.

Polyflor recommends that its luxury vinyl flooring is installed by a professional flooring installer.

1. Prepare the Subfloor

Before installing Fusionline, the subfloor needs to be suitable for receiving a bonded vinyl floor covering.

Polyflor advises removing debris and vacuuming the entire subfloor before checking its condition and making good where required. Cementitious subfloors should be ground where necessary to remove ridges or raised areas, and contaminants that could affect adhesion must be removed.

Where required, the moisture content of the subfloor should also be checked and recorded before installation begins.

2. Condition the Fusionline LVT

Correct conditioning is an important part of installing LVT.

Polyflor states that the tiles or planks, adhesives and any accompanying design elements should be conditioned together for at least 24 hours before installation.

The room should ideally remain between 18°C and 27°C, with the temperature kept as consistent as possible and not varying by more than 2°C.

Boxes should be stacked no more than five boxes high, and the individual tiles or planks should be removed from their boxes approximately 30 minutes before use.

3. Plan and Set Out the Floor

Before applying adhesive, carefully plan the layout to achieve the best overall appearance.

Check the Fusionline flooring before installation to make sure its appearance is acceptable. Some designs may require directional installation and will have arrows on the reverse, so always check the instructions supplied within the box.

For straight-laid planks, Polyflor advises ensuring that cut planks are at least 150mm long. Planks should also be staggered to create a random appearance, with plank ends positioned at least 150mm away from the ends of adjacent planks.

4. Apply the Correct Adhesive

Fusionline PUR is a glue-down LVT, so selecting a suitable adhesive is an important part of the installation.

5. Install the Fusionline Planks or Tiles

Once the area has been correctly set out and the adhesive applied according to its instructions, install the Fusionline planks or tiles following your planned layout.

Continue checking alignment and the overall appearance as installation progresses. Where Fusionline products feature directional arrows, maintain the required direction stated in the in-box instructions.

6. Allow the Adhesive to Cure

After installation, follow the adhesive manufacturer's guidance regarding curing time and when the finished floor can receive foot traffic, furniture or other loads.

Avoid assuming the floor is ready simply because the surface appears dry – curing requirements will depend on the adhesive used.
