Commercial Kitchen Flooring Guide

Commercial Kitchen Flooring Guide

Posted by Tom Shaw on 24th Oct 2022

At Floormart.co.uk, we stock and supply an excellent range of vinyl flooring that is ideally suited for commercial kitchens. Commercial kitchen spaces are some of the most challenging environments for flooring to cope with - in any one shift, there can be spills, water flow, heavy equipment, high traffic, and food mess.

For commercial kitchen flooring to work for a customer, it needs to fulfil many different criteria - which we discuss below:

Commercial Kitchen Flooring Installation

One of the biggest considerations of commercial kitchen flooring - is the ease and speed of the installation. Any downtime to your restaurant is lost cash flow -choosing kitchen flooring with a relatively quick installation time is prudent and important. Most commercial kitchens choose to have new flooring laid during the night shift, when the restaurant closes, to minimise downtime.

Commercial Kitchen Hygiene & Cleaning

Kitchen Flooring needs to perform when it comes to hygiene. Commercial kitchen flooring needs to be easy to clean with industry-standard products & chemicals. Ideally, it should also have antibacterial and antimicrobial properties to prevent germs from developing. This approach keeps you in line with government legislation and protects your staff and customers.

Commercial Kitchen Flooring Slip Resistance

Spills in commercial kitchens are commonplace, with oils, food, and liquids all contributing to spills and increasing the risk of slips and falls. Choosing a slip-resistant kitchen floor is important, helping keep kitchen and restaurant staff safe.

Commercial Kitchen Flooring Tolerance

As mentioned above, commercial kitchen flooring has to deal with several different ‘attacks’. Liquids such as hot oil spill onto the floor, and ingredients which are then walked on - such as grains can attack the rigidity of the flooring. The floor can also be used as storage of heavy items and then is cleaned with harsh chemicals. Choose a floor with a finish that is resistant to such attacks.

Best Commercial Kitchen Flooring

We recommend either Forbo Safestep Flooring or Polyflor Polysafe Flooring for commercial kitchens. This floor has been designed to handle everything you can throw at it, and we have many happy customers using this product, with excellent performance and results.
