Clean the Existing Carpet

One of the first things to do is thoroughly clean the existing carpet, which is in place. Ensure it is free from dirt and matter which can affect the new flooring. If you are cleaning the carpet using liquid, such as a steam cleaner - ensure the carpet is completely dry before laying the new carpet tiles.

Installing over Thin Pile Carpet

If you are installing carpet tiles over a thin pile carpet, more often than not - there is no need for any backing or other preparation of the flooring. Simply installing the carpet tiles directly on top of the old carpet is fine.

Installing over Thick Pile Carpet

If you are laying carpet tiles, over an existing thick pile carpet - it’s advisable to line the floor with plywood boards. The problem with laying carpet tiles over thick pile carpet, is that this type of carpet can cause uneven areas in the floor.
