Commercial Vinyl Flooring Guide
20th Dec 2022
Commercial Vinyl Flooring is a popular choice for many commercial buildings & industries - and it’s used across a range of businesses and organisations, from factory floors to university corridors. It’s popular for many reasons; there’s a massive array of choices, colours and designs available, which we look at in closer detail in this post.
Why Use Commercial Vinyl Flooring
Commercial Vinyl Flooring is ideal for a waterproof floor, providing slip resistance. These factors allow an organisation to install a flooring type that looks great and protects the people using it against falls and slips.
PU VS PUR Flooring
Polyurethane is applied to all vinyl flooring - but differences in manufacturing techniques play an essential role in the differences between PU Vinyl Flooring and PUR Vinyl Flooring.
PU vinyl flooring includes a light covering of polyurethane which means that some light maintenance, such as polishing, is required to keep the floor looking it’s best. PU flooring is most commonly used in areas which do not receive ‘front-of-house attention. PU flooring remains incredibly durable.
PUR Flooring has a polyurethane layer which is heavier than PU flooring, and this layer has also been treated with UV light to ensure that the finish stays. This reduces the required maintenance, and PUR flooring does not usually require polishing.
Does Commercial Vinyl need Acoustic Backing?
Most commercial vinyl flooring manufacturers now include acoustic backing built into their vinyl. Commercial vinyl can reduce sound produced by up to 19db. This is especially important in large buildings, including offices and warehousing.
Is Commercial Vinyl Slip Resistant?
Homogenous Vinyl Flooring is more slip resistant than Heterogenous Vinyl Flooring.
Homogeneous VS Heterogenous Vinyl Flooring
Homogenous Vinyl Flooring is constructed as a single piece of vinyl - meaning that it uses the same single piece from the top of the sheet to the bottom - this increases durability as well as the strength of the colours within the vinyl. It’s perfectly suited to busy areas and has the highest slip resistance of vinyl flooring types.
Heterogenous Vinyl Flooring comprises different layers - the backing, a reinforced layer, a printed layer (which features the pattern of the vinyl) and then a top coat. The printing technology of this vinyl allows for a broader range of designs and patterns to be used.
